Working Together So Children Have Food on the Weekend

No child should have to wonder where their next meal will come from.

For many students in the Watertown City School District, school breakfast and lunch provide the nutrition they need during the week. But when the weekend arrives, some children face empty cupboards and uncertain meals.

That’s why the Watertown City School District, the City of Watertown, and United Way of Northern New York work together through Food 4 Families.

Every Friday during the school year, students enrolled in the program receive a bag filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food to take home for the weekend. These bags help bridge the gap until they return to school on Monday, giving children one less thing to worry about and one more reason to arrive ready to learn.

A Partnership That Makes a Difference

Food 4 Families succeeds because each partner brings unique strengths.

The Watertown City School District identifies students who can benefit from the program and coordinates distribution through each school.

The City of Watertown provides ongoing support to strengthen the program.

United Way of Northern New York connects caring community members with the opportunity to invest in local children by managing charitable contributions, stewarding donor funds, and providing the administrative support that keeps the program strong and sustainable.

Together, we’re ensuring that community generosity is transformed into weekend meals for local children.

More Than a Funder

At United Way, we believe solving community challenges takes more than writing checks.

We bring together people, organizations, and resources together to create lasting solutions. Food 4 Families is one example of how partnerships can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.

When you support Food 4 Families, you’re not simply making a donation. You’re joining a community effort that ensures children have the nutritious food they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
