United Way Awaits Official Notification of Phase 42 Funds
United Way of Northern New York serves as the administrative agency for Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funds in St. Lawrence County. These federal funds help support local organizations providing food and housing assistance to individuals and families in need.
Phase 42 Award Update
We have received preliminary notification of a Phase 42 EFSP award for St. Lawrence County in the amount of $38,403. Upon receipt of the official notification of funding for Phase 42 funds, the Local EFSP Board will issue a call for applications.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Emergency Food and Shelter Board, in order to be eligible to receive EFSP funds, organizations must: 1.) Be in St. Lawrence County, 2.) Be private, voluntary non-profits or units of government, 3.) Be eligible to receive Federal funds, 4.) Have an accounting system, 5.) Practice nondiscrimination, 6.) Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 7.) If they are a private, voluntary organization they must have a voluntary board.
About the Local EFSP Board
The St. Lawrence County Emergency Food and Shelter Program Local Board is made up of representatives from St. Lawrence County Government, the American Red Cross, United Way of Northern New York, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, St. Lawrence County Community Development Program, Victims Assistance Center, St. Lawrence Health Initiative, Step by Step, GardenShare, and other community representatives.
The Local Board is authorized to determine how Federal funding awarded to St. Lawrence County is distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for reviewing applications and determining allocation of funds to applying agencies.
