Tradition With a Twist

As we began planning this year’s Kentucky Derby Social, we found ourselves thinking about simpler times, when gatherings were about more than a good party. They were about neighbors showing up for one another. About the joy of being together, face to face, in real time. Now, more than ever, moments of meaningful connection and unity feel not only welcome but essential.

The Kentucky Derby has always been about more than a horse race. It’s a ritual moment when people gather, dress their best, raise a glass, and take part in something larger than themselves. In many ways, United Way is rooted in that same spirit. Our work is grounded in the belief that we are stronger when we come together for a common cause.

This year, we hope to revive that sense of shared purpose—when neighbors helped neighbors, stewardship mattered, and community meant more than a comment or a “like.” This event isn’t just a party. It’s a moment to honor our shared responsibility to the common good. A reminder that when we come together with generosity of spirit and joyful hearts, real change is possible.

The 2026 Kentucky Derby Social is a nod to the past with an eye toward the future—tradition with a twist, if you will. You can expect beloved signature elements alongside a few new surprises to keep things fresh and exciting. We’re thrilled to return to the Clayton Opera House on Saturday, May 2, 2026, for an evening of elegance and energy. Enjoy live coverage of the race, hosted by the North Country’s favorite emcee, Mel Busler. Joe and Shannon Foy will set the tone with their musical stylings, while Buffy returns with her signature sips—hand-crafted cocktails and perfect pours courtesy of O’Brien’s Restaurant and Bar.

As always, we invite you to dress the part and arrive photo-ready. Break out your most charming hat or fascinator, cocktail dress, or seersucker suit. Extra points for retro-inspired flair—think gloves, bowties, handkerchiefs, and timeless Southern elegance. Who knows? You might even win a prize!

To shake things up this year, we’re introducing a live paddle auction, capturing the collective energy of giving together, in the room, and in the moment. Between bids, guests will enjoy exquisite bites from 24 Carrots Catering. And let’s just say… we still have a few tricks tucked up our linen- and lace-trimmed sleeves!

So, mark your calendar, spread the word, and start planning your outfit. The United Way Kentucky Derby Social 2026 promises heritage, hospitality, and heart.
