A Message of Gratitude from Our CEO: United Is the Way

Some moments remind us just how powerful collaboration can be—and how much stronger we are when we come together. Over the course of just two days, across three counties, I witnessed four extraordinary acts of generosity that reinforced a simple truth we hold close at United Way of Northern New York: united really is the way.

On Tuesday morning, I traveled to Massena to meet with the leadership team at SeaComm as they prepared for their workplace campaign kickoff. During that visit, SeaComm’s CEO announced that employee pledges this year will be matched dollar for dollar. A bold act of leadership and a meaningful investment in our shared community!

That same afternoon, the focus shifted to Jefferson County, where we partnered with Subaru Loves to Help to distribute 204 new winter coats to children at Ohio Elementary School. Held alongside the school’s Great Winter Warm-Up, the event was literacy-themed, joyful, and full of energy. We were grateful to be joined by Fuccillo Subaru, whose team helped hand out coats and connect with families, an inspiring example of what’s possible when schools, businesses, and nonprofits work together.

Wednesday brought two more moments of generosity. In the morning, I visited Watertown Savings Bank in Jefferson County and was presented with a $33,000 corporate pledge in support of United Way’s work, a humbling reminder of the trust our partners place in us and the responsibility we carry to steward that trust well.

The day concluded with a visit to Double Play Community Center, where we received $2,517 raised through the Turkey Trot to support the Renee Beyer Fund, closing out two whirlwind days with another powerful example of community-driven kindness.

Four acts of generosity. Three counties. Two days. Countless reminders that the North Country shows up for one another in meaningful ways.

Tomorrow brings a new day—and, for me, a stack of thank-you letters waiting to be signed. Each one represents a donor, a partner, or a volunteer who believes in this work and helps make it possible.

To everyone who plays a role in supporting United Way of Northern New York: thank you. Your generosity, collaboration, and belief in community are what make lasting impact possible.

United is the way.
