Socks for Seniors: A Fun Way to Brighten a Senior’s Holiday
The holidays are filled with busy schedules, long to-do lists, and cozy moments with family. But for many homebound older adults across the North Country, the season can feel quiet and lonely.
That’s why United Way of Northern New York, together with Watertown Savings Bank, is launching Socks for Seniors, a simple, joyful way to remind our seniors that they matter and they are loved.
A Little Gift With a Lot of Heart
It may seem small, but a pair of warm, fun socks can bring real comfort to someone who spends most of their time at home. And let’s be honest, socks have had quite a glow-up! From bright colors and cozy patterns to silly characters and favorite pets, socks have become the “it” holiday gift. They’re a perfect way to say, “I’m thinking of you.”
Socks for Seniors is designed so anyone can take part, students, families, businesses, book clubs, you name it. It doesn’t take much time or money, just a little kindness.
How It Works
From November 17 through December 12, we are collecting new, cozy socks for older adults in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties. All donations will be delivered through Meals on Wheels and other senior meal programs, tucked in with a warm meal and an even warmer message of care.
