The Canton Price Chopper raised $2,028 for the United Way of NNY through the August fundraising campaign, the most of any of the company's 134 stores in six states.
The money will go into the 2019 United Way of NNY campaign to support nonprofit programs in St. Lawrence County. The store received a gift certificate that can be used for an in-house party to celebrate its success.
"The Canton store is obviously not the largest store in the company, so what the team did there is outstanding," said Bob Gorman, CEO of the United Way of NNY. "The Ogdensburg ($1,087) and Potsdam ($1,087) stores finished second and third, so it was a great showing in the north country. We truly appreciate the friendly rivalry among the stores."
Other stores in the area are in Gouverneur, Watertown, Alexandria Bay, West Carthage and Massena. The eight NNY Price Choppers raised $5,411 for the United Way.
"Price Chopper managers encourage their teammates to explain to shoppers where their dollars are going and why it is important to give," said Gorman. "This works because the entire team embraces the goal of raising money for north country nonprofits.
