The United Way of NNY will be helping to bring 2-1-1 service to the three-county region later this year. Like 9-1-1 for emergency calls, 2-1-1 helps callers get help and information on a variety of community services. All but nine counties in the state have 2-1-1 already.
2-1-1 is a national program that is sponsored by United Way. States provide much of the money needed to pay for the service. Additional funding for this region was put in this year’s state budget in part due to advocacy by Sen. Patty Ritchie.
A recent meeting with representatives of all three counties was held in Lowville and was also attended by Reg Foster, CEO of the United Way of New York. More information will be available soon.
